Fri 3/12 – the farside presents: LEATHERFACE!, Yesterday’s Ring, Witchfinger, Lucky Scars @ St Mikes »

sometimes when promoting a show you use words like “epic” or “legendary”, but i promise you it’ll be a long time before i’ll mean those descriptives with anywhere near this amount of sincerity. on friday night, march 12th, the farside will be hosting LEATHERFACE, a british melodic punk band that began writing and playing music 22 years ago. leatherface was and is a pioneering force in punk music, heavily influencing bands such as HOT WATER MUSIC (responsible for encouraging leatherface out of retirement years ago), AVAIL, DILLINGER FOUR, et cetera.

leatherface relies on the gruff and intelligent lyrics of frankie stubbs, whose howls and coughed vocals seem to emanate from an unending and unimproving pit of despair and frustration deep inside of him. this is the type of show you will not want to miss if you’re a fan of punk music. fans of leatherface would maybe travel great distances to see the band play in a setting this intimate. if you haven’t heard leatherface yet, i’d suggest starting with 1991’s “mush”, which is essentially a perfect punk rock document and one of the best albums ive personally ever heard. seriously!

sorry for the prescript. here’s the details!:

**** FRIDAY MARCH 12th / Doors 9PM
*** $8 for 2 touring bands
** 21+ (and we apologize profusely, this honestly made the most sense for the show. we wrestled with all of this)

LEATHERFACE (Sunderland, UK) – legendary punk rock outfit

YESTERDAY’S RING (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) – thoughtful punk/country hybrid; ex- saint catherines, fifth hour hero

WITCHFINGER (Tallahassee, Florida) – pissed off, energetic local pop punk

Tuesday 3/16 – DEAD TO ME, SMOKE OR FIRE, SPANISH GAMBLE at COOLIFORNIA (aftershow!) »

This should be a real fun time. After the Hop Along/Dangerous Ponies/Curious Animals show at Farside at 7PM, there will be a house show at 721 California Street (Coolifornia House), featuring performances by:

  • Dead to Me (San Francisco; Fat Wreck Chords) – 3-piece pop punk in the style of other Cali bands like Swingin’ Utters, etc. ; ex-One Man Army!!
  • Smoke or Fire (Richmond; Fat Wreck Chords) – melodic/singalong punk in the vein of Strike Anywhere/The Loved Ones; featuring members of Avail!!
  • Spanish Gamble (Gainesville; Fail Safe Records) – this is a punk band from a town to our southeast, called gainesville. you get it.
  • + local(s) to be announced.

Seriously, Dead to Me is a fantastic band in my opinion, and Smoke or Fire is returning for the first time since playing Beta Bar a few years ago (they ruled!). This should be a real big blast! All 3 bands are touring through after playing Harvest of Hope fest, and Dead to Me/Smoke or Fire are on their way out to SXSW.  Both bands regularly play headlining sets during The Fest, so getting to see them in a living room is awesome and something you might have to wait a while to see again.

10PM / $5 for touring bands / BYOB / BE RESPECTFUL OF THIS HOUSE AND ITS OCCUPANTS!
